Wedding September 2025

So R2 was invited to another wedding this year, and it would appear he is not one to refuse a good party. We were approached by Mike and Louise at the March 4th event at Leicester Space Centre in 2024, having been recommended by the photographer from another wedding R2 had attended last year. Hands were shaken and it was agreed he would be there. Sadly it turned out that this event would clash with the Glasgow event and I would miss out on it again this year. Sorry Doug, next year I promise.

On the day of the wedding we were asked to stay hidden to maintain the surprise and at the appropriate time to enter loudly, we obliged, ably assisted by my co-pilot, R2 proceeded down the aisle delivering the rings to the happy couple, waving and chatting to everyone on the way down. Side note – with a steel droid you can make all kinds of magnetic accessories from bow ties to ring trays and anything in between – highly recommended.

He stayed for the rest of the ceremony before leading the couple back down the aisle. With his celebrity status he distracted the guests (and staff), posing for photos so the bride and groom had a chance to take a breath and get ready for their own photos. I think we’ll be finding confetti in some interesting places for some time to come.

R2 chatted with everyone through the meal (we got fed as well – a certain droid operator (not me) even wangled 2 puddings out of them). After food and speeches (in which we were mentioned) We hit the dance floor and R2 was seen throwing shapes to all manner of classics while Alex “two puddings” McCann was practicing the new sport of rhythmic lightsabers (would have been a better Olympic sport than breakdancing).

R2 was a massive hit and everyone was very friendly and very grateful for his presence. We couldn’t have been treated better and had a whale of a time. Weddings are highly recommended to those who haven’t done them before – but always make sure both bride and groom are on board with idea before agreeing – sage advise from Sam Prentice who has fallen foul of this previously.
