Travel and Set up

Friday morning we loaded up the van and headed north. While we were journeying north others were flying and driving in and all started setting up once they arrived. The space we were given was large but still by the end of set up Friday it was difficult to fit the 34+ droids we had there. We were set up around the ISG and Rebel Legion. They had 2 display areas set up ( Jabbas Gate and an Death Star corridor) a small droid display behind their desk and a Shoot a Trooper tent. We were set for the next day.

The First Evening

During the evening many of us were booked into food and crazy golf by Doug all of us pitting our skills wits and luck against each other. Somehow, by a long way, Loz won. An enjoyable evening nonetheless.

Day 1

The first day saw some 9000 people descend on the event. In and around all the driving round, interacting with folks and entertaining the public we also managed to do 3 MOT’s We had a good variety of droids present R2-D2, BB8, C1-10P, R5-D4, an ALT and many other R series droids. We also had some of the smaller droids 3 MSE-9s and a few of MrB’s custom droid designs ( including the new ride on droids). The event had lots of stands covering retailers, makers, artists, and education and career. There was a Tardis, DeLorean, Ghostbusters, CHP, Wrestling and many more. We were given a side room with power and rest facilities for our use.

The Second Evening

On the second night we went out to the dockyard, hosted by the ISG. This was an outstanding venue with a large variety of food and with everyone mingling, talking over the day and generally having a good time.

Day 2

The second day saw 6000 people attend and with that more opportunity for us to go out and greet the public. During initial queueing we had 9 or so droids out buzzing around the waiting crowd and interacting with them all. This was a sight to see and captivating to watch. The whole day we had many droids out and calls for photos.

Summary

During the 2 days the 3 groups raised £1148, MOT’d 3 droids, entertained some 11000+ visitors guests and exhibitors, and made a huge impression on the organisers, the ISG and the public writ large. We have had an invite for another event from this and are already hearing they may want us back and bigger next year! We had builders travel from Bristol, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Lancashire, Cheshire, London, Aberdeenshire, the Highlands and more locally from Glasgow and surrounding areas. Many thanks to Doug, Brian and all the ISG/RL folks for making us all feel welcome. The event was superb and I thoroughly believe this will be one of THE events to go to in coming years. Well worth the near 700 miles travelled for some.
