The MOT

Using a rolling road we conducted a lot of the Structural tests. We also used this for the range exceed test and the Catapult test. The first is as it is for all droids. The latter is to test what would happen if a builder were to lose grip on the head controls. We are looking to make sure the head doesn’t become a projectile.

With that complete we checked the smoothness of the head movement, checked the magnetic strength was right for the head.

Then we looked inside the droid. Here checks for wiring and mechanical movement were done. In particular here we are looking for the wiring being correctly sized and that the movement of the head pole would be unable dislodge or rub wires. Checks on bearings and chains are done here too. We also check the head movement mechanism stays clear of the body and wont impact on it, and the same with the bottom side of the drive.

The rest of the mot was done with the droid rolling. This involved Emergency stops, boomerangs, and all as normal but with an added Dizzy test to see if a spin on the spot feature is implemented that it doesn’t spin wildly.

MOT complete and passed. The first done on BB8 under the dedicated MOT process for ball droids.
