Sci-Fi Scarborough 2025

Once again Sci-Fi Scarborough delivers on an amazing event!

As always we were well looked after by Steve and the team, accommodation in local B&Bs was organised and paid for, car parking was included, a green room with drinks, the team were attentive and kept asking if we needed anything. We were able to bring the vehicles right to the door of our room for loading and unloading too.

We had loads of space in the Promenade lounge, just us, NYPD (North Yorkshire Props Department) & Outer Rim props, with their amazing full scale dioramas, this year the addition of the trash compactor scene was particularly awesome. This gave us room to spread out with a nice display with the WIPs at one end, the small droids on tables and then a fab back drop, provided by JD, for a photo op with the statics. It was a good showing of builders and droids (although in conversation it would appear that most of us were down to the wire with repairs to get ready for this event). Sadly we were unable to fulfil the creed of “No Doug left behind” as due to changing work schedules we were a man down,

Before the event had even started we managed to get most people out for pre-game meal on the Friday, we were only missing Sarah who couldn’t make it that night. A cheeky Italian followed by a few beers in town and finishing with a little trip to the casino (no gambling, just a good old chat and a couple of drinks)

Day 1 started a little earlier than was expected for a couple of us as Mark H can’t tell the time and got him and Julie up, showered, dressed and ready in the dining room a full 2 hours before the 8 o’clock breakfast they had booked before he realised his error, I don’t think Julie appreciated that.
All the space we had meant plenty of room for driving, the smaller droids were able to see plenty of action as well. This also meant more fun could be had with the Big Baby Astros (but we’ll just use the videos of people falling off)
The Saturday night meal was a Mexican, a concerning amount of meat was ordered and even more concerning amount was consumed, sombreros were worn and a few beers were consumed.

Then it was the Sci-Fi Scarborough afterparty, complete with a disco Dalek, Star Trek officers behind the bar and Sci-Fi themed cocktails. I can now happily say I have drank a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster The Kessel Run came with mixed reviews but the clear winner was the Klingon Blood Wine – Qapla’!!!!

Day 2 started with an aroma familiar to all of us and prompted JD to ask “Who’s droid is on fire?”, those words sparked a rapid response from all builders (including those with no batteries in the droids yet), it turned out that a certain Chopper operator had blown up his UA servo for the 3rd time this weekend. Cupcakes from the B&B made up a little for the rude awakening Julie had the previous morning.

The Sunday wasn’t quite as well attended as the Saturday but still a decent number of guests. It meant that TC-14 got a good trip out with her entourage. The organisers also appear to have organised the weather for us, Saturday was lovely and the Sunday was glorious, added to this is the fact that there is plenty of droid friendly outdoor space to explore, including the sun court just adds to the experience.

That left us with the raffle, this year bringing the total charity fund raised by the Sci-Fi Scarborough raffle to £10,000. Then the all important group photo (which people haven’t been seamlessly stitched into, honest) before breakdown and a bit of a congested load up. A fab weekend with a fabulous group of people, definitely one of my favourite events of the year (and not just because it’s my local event), can’t recommend it highly enough.
